Week of August 28, 2023

Updated: Sep 2, 2023

Good afternoon, friends. Welcome to the month of September on campus!

The Rock, located just outside of College Hall.

We certainly experienced a week of beautiful weather that seemed to invite an autumn-like spirit. The local coffee shops launched their pumpkin-spice items, the hammock park was full yesterday, and I even saw a few students in sweaters!

I have just a few short updates to share this week:

Laurin Notheisen Exhibit now Featured at the Harcum Art Gallery

Wilmington College's Harcum Art Gallery kicked off its 2023-24 season Thursday evening with an exhibit of paintings by Laurin Notheisen.

A Chicago native, Notheisen received her bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and a master of fine arts degree in lithography from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She was hired in 1975 by Western Kentucky University, where she continues to teach basic design and printmaking.

Notheisen has presented her works in numerous juried competitions and has participated in solo, group and invitational exhibitions over her career. Her works are part of private, public and corporate collections.

The exhibit will run from August 31 through October 20. The gallery is located within the Boyd Cultural Arts Center adjacent to the theatre. Be sure to stop in!

Position Updates within Human Resources

Wilmington College Senior Director of Athletics Bill Wilson has announced the hiring of Shadrach Brausch as assistant athletic director for facilities & operations. The position serves as a liaison between WC's Physical Plant in serving the facility needs of the institution's 18 varsity athletic programs. Additionally, it serves on the athletics leadership team to ensure smooth game-day management operations and other athletic department events throughout the year.

Shadrach comes to Wilmington with a wide variety of skills and experiences having most recently served as a strength and conditioning intern at The Ohio State University. There, he worked primarily with the fencing, swimming & diving, and track & field teams.

Please join in welcoming Shadrach to Wilmington College!

Athletic Events this Weekend

Congratulations to the women's soccer team on their season-opening win against Earlham earlier today at the "Quaker Bowl!"

Our mascot, Quakerman.

Also, we wish good luck: to the women's volleyball team this weekend as they face the host, Denison University, on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and conclude the weekend with matches against Franklin College (Indiana) and Washington & Jefferson College (Pennsylvania); to the men's soccer team, which begins its 2023 season in Greencastle, Indiana, on Friday with a contest against DePauw University; to the men's and women's cross-country teams, who both compete this weekend at the Grizzly Invitational in Shelbyville, Indiana; and to the football team, which opens its 2023 season hosting the College of Wooster in non-conference action from Williams Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.

GO QUAKERS, all around!

In peace and gratitude,

Corey
